Re: Empty

Hmmm... Will this be Prototype 2, or is it something different?

Re: Empty

It's going to be a side scroller for sure, but hopefully the weapon system and game mechanics will feel completely different.

The intro music wouldn't play.  I hate Quicktime(or maybe IE hates it).

Blender blender3d.org is absolutely lovely.  I've used 3DS Max and Maya, and I much prefer Blender.

Maya?  That's pretty high-end stuff.  Isn't it somewhere around $70,000?

Re: Empty

Maya is pretty powerful software, and it costs $7,000 US. If it costs 70k, well... the world wouldn't exist. You can get a complete version for around $2,000 though.

Maya does have a personal, non-commercial edition for everyone to use:

Although the learning one leaves a watermark on pictures and the export format (I think) is non-commercial.

Re: Empty

X-0ut, just DO NOT kid yourself, because the graphics that you are working on are most definitely an excellent start for sure ( d=grin2=b ! ), and I absolutely love the reds of the rocks, too.  My kind of game making if you ask me!!!

Keep up the splendid work on the original graphics, my man!!!  grin1 !

Re: Empty

That's odd.  I read a book that said it was 70k.  Guess it was wrong.  So Maya's hard to use?

Re: Empty

Maya's not particularly hard to use if you have a good spatial sense.  I just find it restrictive compared to Blender.

X, those tiles look really great.  Very moody with a certain richness to the palette and subtle use of shading.  Either I've just paid you a compliment for your excellent work or described a wine.

Not much to show visually, the last few days have been spent mostly coding.
Engine is up and running, game is playable. There arent any enemies to destroy as of yet.

Re: Empty

The spaceship looks good(almost clayish, in fact), but the "Design Your Fate" font doesn't go well with the rest of your style in my opinion.  Looks great, though.

(quick question--why are you designing your "fate" rather than your ship?)

Re: Empty

The ship you you select, and tailor to your preference will ultimately seal your fate.
But I agree, the font just looks wrong, no matter still early days Smiley

In other words, the ship you're designing is the one that's going to determine whether you live or die.
But the paint has no effect on your skills  Tongue

Re: Empty

Heh true, the paint has nothing at all to do with how your selected ship will behave.
Its just that one of my daughters wanted the player to have a pink spaceship and I didnt think that would go down too well.
Besides its just an extra feature some people might enjoy.
There will be more to configure on these pages... hold tight Smiley

And the new font is much better than the funky one you used before, along with the stylish pink. Tongue

Re: Empty

Ok another update, made a start on the weapon system. I'm getting a little worried that it doesnt fit in well with the theme now:

Each ship will have arm(s) attached to it, which can pickup weapons, which can then be moved into preset configurations.
I know its not exactly gradius stlye multiples, is this safe with the theme?
If not I'll try and do something about it.

Re: Empty

The official definition of options we decided on was 'satelites or other seperate craft'.  This means that your options must be seperate entities from your main craft.  Options which can attach and detach are fine such as the Force in R-Type, but if they're permanently attached they're not really options just upgrades.

Smart choice, man, as it sure is a *much* better route to take here rather than the ship attachments, you know?  police=b

I decided that I will scrap the Einhader style weapon system in favour of an Rtype/Gradius cross-over.
Oh well, maybe another contest I can do that Smiley

With a little soul searching (all of about two seconds), it looks as though I'll be doing something similar to my entry in the first compo.  So heres the new multiples:

No, I'm not currently scrapping the background. I was actually refering to the weapon system that I had in mind.
It just didnt work with the theme.

Very nice option designs. I like the glow effect in the orange spheres. There's a bit of a pop in the animation for the first and seconds ones though, as the particles in the orange bit don't match up when the animation resets. I think you'll either have to make the internals of the sphere symmetrical or else rotate it a full 360 for every 90 degrees that the outer parts rotate.
