Re: Vergeltung (somehow completed more or less)

Well, it's playable  Cheesy See first post.
The official upload happened around 20secs before deadline - and is buggy...
So forget the official link and use this one. It will allways lead you to the latest (corrected) version.

Nice. The menu was hot as hell. Too bad the game wouldn't run faster. I got 20 fps when I minimized all graphical settings and ran it at the lowest resolution. Looks quite solid, though. Great job  Smiley

Re: Vergeltung (somehow completed more or less)

Thanks for the flowers, pals!

But there are still some bugs. Sometimes the OBJ-model-parser produces invalid meshes (still dunno why, very interesting bug) and as a result the game stops (the brick-fader keeps closed) because all meshes are checked for consistency.
And yesterday a friend of mine reported that it won't run on his Vista machine (white screen and ciao).
So there's still much to do.

To cactus: sorry for the low FPS. Normally it runs at above 75 FPS on Radeon9600 class cards at 1024x768x16. Try reducing the color depth to 16bit. The game is fill rate limited so CPU doesn't really matter. You can also modify the level01.xml file. In the first lines the scrolling background layers are defined. Just remove some of them (e.g. lines 30-35).
In one of the next versions I'll add some "priority" info to those layers so there will be an additional option to switch of not-so-important layers.

Re: Vergeltung (somehow completed more or less)

New update available at
http://www.goldencode.de/vg/Vergeltung.zip

Contains some bug-fixes (one caused crashes or at least prevented the level from initializing) and some little tuning here and there.

Re: Vergeltung (somehow completed more or less)

Could you please refrain from changing the download from the competition version until the judgeing is complete.  Posting updates is fine but as long as the compo version remains accessible incase we have to re-download.

Re: Vergeltung (somehow completed more or less)

I didn't change the compo version download.
Just my external download.

A new update is available. Contains many fixes and some additions (Laser-Bomb V1, Spread-Bomb V1, Hiscores are saved, etc.).

Re: Vergeltung (somehow completed more or less)

Yet another update (please use one of the links above).

the2bears complained that there should be some more indication wether you're hitting an enemy or not.

So I added some remaining-hitpoints-bars. The percentual remaining hit-points of the five last hitted enemies are displayed at the top-right corner.

Have fun!

Quote from: the2bears
It would also benefit from some indication on the boss that you’re hitting it.

I don't want anyone blaming me for this  Wink I really think hit point indicators for the regular enemies are too much, clutter the screen.  Just something like a flash that lets you know you're hitting the boss.

Those tiny little bars shouldn't be a problem, I think. And they fade away very quickly.
I personally don't like those flashing effects, but I think some sound effect should definitely be added.
