Also, since you have made it for this competition just in time, I welcome you aboard... great to see you!!  d=grin2=b

Best of such awesome success and programming to you on your entry, and make it real nice and playable and FUN for us, too!!!  Wink

It sure is, my friend!!  Grin  You *must* put in some sort of option (like the glowing orange ghost ships in Gradius, for example!) in order for your game to qualify.  Be creative with your own talents in making one, too!!!  Wink=b !

This is just so excellent. And yeah it probably won't hurt to add one or two anikis. Grin

Re: ENTRY: bullet hell high

I like the MSPaint-y graphics(especially the game over screen), but they MUST be animated.  If they're not animated, then your game will look awful.

That's not a very nice thing to say.

i agree.
but hey, everyone is entitled to their opinion.
this is just me coding for fun, trying to see if i can finish a project.
i amy put animations in, or i may not.

anyway...heres an update.
things that are done.
-3 basic enemies
-3 staged boss
-not nearly as easy as it was in the beginning
-most bullet patterns finished.

things to do.
-options
-assemble enemy waves into a level
-sound effects.
-minor graphical work.

i think i amy actually be able to finish this.
again, this will only be one level.

Sorry, I was up late and posted the first thing that came to my mind.  But those graphics would look awesome animated.

Anyway, one level is fine, if it's a good one.

Re: BULLET HELL HIGH IS FINISHED.

Cool, looking forward to trying this out.

By the way, for the contest upload it here (Shmup-Dev).  That's the only way "final" versions can be assured at the deadline.

Re: BULLET HELL HIGH IS FINISHED.

I have tried your project, plounted, and the game play is difficult, but I can clear the stage after a few tries.  Not bad.  Wink

One serious problem, though: the music choice — which was the song “Akage No Kelly” (赤毛のケリー) by music group Thee Michelle Gun Elephant, by the way — that you chose as the BGM for your entry has already been copyrighted by someone else: Universal-Music K.K. Japan.  In fact, original information for this group indeed is right here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thee_Michelle_Gun_Elephant) and also on their official page as well.

Really, I DEFINITELY do not want Shmup-dev to end up being sued for attempting to infringe on somebody else’s original copyrighted material, and as such, man, it would be best for you to *please* remove that music for your game at once and then re-release your project quickly in order to make it a more legitimate entry.  That is all you need to do at this stage of the competition while the time is left.  If you can, you can replace that music with your own original one, but nonetheless, the copyrighted music needs to be removed indeed by the final compo version of Bullet Hell High before the contest deadline hits.

I am not trying to insult you or take away from you or anything like that at all, plounted; rather, I DO NOT want your game to be disqualified in any way.  That is all.  Smiley !

Re: BULLET HELL HIGH IS FINISHED.

As for your replacement music choice now that I have just noticed in this newest upload of your game that I have now tried, plounted, now THAT is so much better!!!  d=Grin=b  Plus, the new BGM here is not even bad at all; suits the mood of this game well, I think!!  Wink

Thank you so very much for your participation in this compo, man!!!  police

Re: BULLET HELL HIGH IS FINISHED.

The game has a lot of charm, but feels like it could need a bit of polish to reach it's fullest potential. The first thing that strike me as weird is the static background. I noticed it already from the screens but figured you were waiting to put that in or something. Second, the "bullets" of the enemies look very dull and have very primitive patterns. As someone else noted, the game could've used some animations too. I didn't figure out where the hitbox was, so I couldn't get very far in the game. I had a hunch that it was pretty large, but I really don't know.

What I do like about the game is the theme, and the ideas for the different splash screens. The whole game feels like a very solid and fun concept, and the style is spot on, aside from being so static. I hope you keep working on the game, because I can definitely see a bright future for it. I also think you should consider working a few hours more on it for the competition as well, it could probably earn you a few steps up in the final ranking wink2

Re: BULLET HELL HIGH IS FINISHED.

Cactus is right, a parallax background wouldn't be too much trouble to squeeze in before the deadline.

Good luck with your entry!

Re: BULLET HELL HIGH IS FINISHED.

thanks for your comments.

i actually cannot work on the game anymore.
there was some kind of freak incident where all the code just disappeared from the source file.
i would have to go back and totally rewrite about half the game. this is pretty much my fault, but i still have no idea how it happened.

as for the background, that was the one thing that i could not figure out how to code, having a very limited programming knowledge. this is the first thing i have ever fully programmed.

mostly my goal was to have a playable level by the deadline, and i managed to do that.

im going to try to keep coding, in hopes that i can get better.

so again thanks for your comments, but theres really not much i can do.
