mpersano's entry - abandoned

I'm writing a vertical shooter. The friendly units element will come in the form of pods that you can rescue and will increase your firepower, a-la Tokio/Scramble Formation.

Unlike my other entry, this one will actually have planned levels! I'll use a level editor that I started writing a while ago, but have been procrastinating finishing until now. Screenshot

Re: mpersano's entry

Glad to see you entering.  I like the level editor, I am (still) in need of something more than what I have now.

You've been amazingly productive though. :-)

Re: mpersano's entry

I agree on the level editor, at first glance that's very impressive. Hopefully what you produce will be equally as impressive.

Re: mpersano's entry

Thanks for the encouragement! I couldn't get much done during the week (real life...), but I'll try to make up for it in the weekend.

Re: mpersano's entry

Still didn't progress as far as I wanted (family, job, the usual suspects) but at least I have now a very clear picture of what I want for the final product. I'm nowhere near that yet, though. :-)

Everyone else is posting pictures, so here are some tanks:

Re: mpersano's entry

Time is almost up. Instead of coding my entry, yesterday I wasted a lot of time modeling this:

Should I try to texture it? Ouch, still two evenings and half a weekend to go!

W00t, someone else uses Wings3d!
Also, I wouldn't texture it. You don't have enough time. It's your call though [and that looks like it'd be annoying to texture...]

[edit]
Just put some simple colors on it w/ vertex colors. Easy, and fast.

Re: mpersano's entry

I like it Smiley  Similar to the P-38 I'm using this time around.

Re: mpersano's entry - abandoned

Another abandoned entry. Sorry. I probably got too ambitious for a "rapid prototype" competition.

It was far from being a complete loss, though: I got quite a bit done, and will definitely keep working on this little game, so expect a new entry under the WIP sub-forum soon! Huge thank you to the organizers of these competitions, they're great motivators!

Mad respect for guys like the2bears and kdmiller, you guys always manage to turn in great games within such a tight time frame, even with "grown-up" responsibilities and all. Smiley

Re: mpersano's entry - abandoned

We both have reusable application frameworks, which means we can focus on the novel gameplay elements for the session instead of building a new application from scratch.

Actually, all it allows me to do is procrastinate a bit more Wink
