Object Formats

What object formats are people using?

I'm looking at making my own.  I don't need any animation per object-- that is going to be handled by articulation-- but I do need to have a shader list per polygon.

What are people doing in this regard?  Is there something I should look at before I reinvent the square wheel?

Re: Object Formats

If you mean 3D model formats, investigate which good enough formats are understood by the 3D engine you want to use (e.g. Irrlicht or Ogre).
If you are using straight OpenGL or DirectX, there are model loading libraries you can use (DirectX also has a native model format).
You also need to export models from a 3D editing package: some formats are supported by plugins of varying quality, your own format would require coding your own exporter (not necessarily difficult).
