Upcoming SHMUP by Spotcat Needs Help

IMPORTANT UPDATE: As of July 8, 2011, GMT +8. we are putting this game on shelf in favor of other games and contractual projects. We are a very low cost studio and needs to consider our finances. We have estimated that the development cost of this game would be financially challenging for us. If there's any publisher willing to help us pursue this game, or just about anyone who wants to fund the development of this game, feel free to contact us at pau@spotcatstudio.com Thanks for understanding!

Hi Guys!

We need your help. We are on the prototype stage of our Upcoming SHMUP that we plan to release on iOS devices.

What do you guys think? Any criticisms, feedbacks, suggestions, etc are welcome! Smiley

Regarding art, programming, gameplay, design, sounds, story, animation, EVERYTHING! Smiley

Thanks for looking!

Re: Upcoming SHMUP by Spotcat Needs Help

Hi and welcome! Looking good, just a few things:

1. The additive blended explosions overpaint enemy bullets (1:06). A big fat never ever do that!

2. There should be some visual enemy-hit feedback, some sparks or whatever. Well, at least the player's shots shouldn't just vanish. This looks a bit ugly, especially with the longer shots (0:38).

3. The player's shots overpaint the player's ship (1:24 or 0:38)

4. The player weapon seems to be a bit off to the right (1:42 or 0:38)

5. Some hitboxes are a bit too obvious (2:00). You should give such enemies a collection of better fitting hitboxes or hitcircles.

Re: Upcoming SHMUP by Spotcat Needs Help

Really nice character art. This is looking good.
Some suggestions:
Vary the explosion sound, either by changing the volume or creating a few different types of explosion audio.
It looks like you can drag the player very quickly at the moment, I'd restrict the maximum speed of the player, so that even if someone flicks their finger over the iphone very quickly, the character still moves smoothly.
The boss has a very obvious hit-box, you might need to break it up into smaller parts so that the bullets collide with it better.
The boss bullet patterns are too easy to dodge by finding the gaps and staying in them. Overlay a second type of bullets with a different pattern to make this a little more challenging.

Thanks! Nice suggestions, we will work on all of them!

I always find it more fun when the player shots move very quickly. Do you have a composer/sound designer?
