Question

So

I am wondering if this is ok for the compo.

You can only move left and right along 8 rails while things come at you.

Check the image and see what you think.

Re: Question

I would assume that would be like Tempest?

Re: Question

Looks more like a 3d perspective honestly, I'd stay away from this one.

Re: Question

Of course Matt's the final word, but interestingly enough your game plays on a 2D plane, albeit on that's warped and twisted into the 3rd D Smiley

Re: Question

Ehrm... Matt, I have a similar design with the OP, but my design does not have the skewed/rotated kinda view, it's basically a top view vertical scroller, but with the camera positioned lower and closer to the [ship] the player is controlling, something like Space Harrier (but I am using Direct3D as my API), so is my design okay?

sorry for hijacking this thread.

Re: Question

Hey geekman, although I'd love to play a game like that, I'd have to say that would go against the 2D Perspective rule.

Re: Question

oh, bummer, look like I'll have to trash the current design...or save it for a future compo (just got to the documentation, not started to program it yet).... Wink

oh well, back to the drawing board again. *loading Ray Crisis CD into the Good ole' Playstation*  Grin

Re: Question

There is nothing stopping you from making this, we will still host it on the forum. You will need a different idea for the compo. Good luck! Actually I'm DEVing two games at once, one for the compo one for a friend.

Re: Question

Well after some discussion with people I think we are going to just put in  2D or 3D option, it will basically just position the camera differently for whatever option you choose.

If we do this ill that be ok?

Switching cameras to 3D Briefly is allowed if its used as an effect.  But Making the game a 3D Game (via perspective) isnt.  If the game can be played the whole way with a 2D Perspective then I believe this would be OK.

Re: Question

Yeah at the beginning of the game you choose 2d or 3d mode, the whole game can be played in either mode

Re: Question

Just remember that the judges will be grading soley on the 2d version, so don't focus all the WOW factor on the 3d. Shocked
